Fireblood Chapter 2
The festival and a surprise?

As the two were sleeping, resting for the next day's 'events', the captain of the guard, Taurus, and his daughter, Samantha, or Sam for short, were making their way to the briefing room. The two theives that ran around the city, taking money from rich merchants and nobelmen, and entering young girls homes (though it has not been proven) were becoming a problem. The guards have been unable, so far, to aprehend them. People began to question their effeciency. So they decided that this time there was no room for failure.

The old guard ran his hand through his short, brown hair, which was now speckled with gray. He was a strong, and respectable man. Always focused. The same could not be said for his 17 year old daughter who followed behind lost in thought.

She was thinking back to when she had first met one of the theives. She had been given one of her most hated tasks, patrol. She walked around the market, eyeing the people she deemed suspicious when she noticed a boy with long black hair next to a stall lined with jewels and golden trinkets. He was particularly interested in a beautiful emerald necklace. Very beautiful, and very valuable. She pulled her hood further over her face to provide better protection from the cold.

She had to be in disguise of course. If she walked around in her armour with her sword at her side any thieves would see her coming and wait until she passed before making off with their stolen goods.

It didn't mean she had to enjoy it.

She knew he was up to no good. She took a moment to study him. He had long black hair that stopped just below his shoulders. A small part of it seemed to stick up on one side. When he turned his head to look around she caught a glimpse of his face. He had ocean-blue eyes that held a bit of sadness but also a determination and a terrible secret. He was moderatly built and she noticed that his shirt was a bit tight showing his well muscled arms. She shook the thought from her mind, her cheeks turning a bit pink. He turned his gaze towards her direction and furrowed his brows as if concentrating. She breathed in sharply. Did he know she was watching him? His ears twitched as he heard the sound and looked directly into her eyes. Even from the distance they were apart from each other she could see his face perfectly.

He tilted his head a bit then smiled at her and winked! She hoped that the hood covered her face as good as she hoped because she was blushing like crazy. Who did this guy think he was? She couldn't think about it for long because a very large man stepped in front of her. He had to use a cane to keep himself upright and the buttons on his vest seemed to cry out for mercy. When the man had gone she looked back at the stall but the boy was gone, too. And so was the necklace!

She bit back a curse and ran for the stall. How could she be so stupid! He must have been smarter than she initially thought because he knew who she was even with her disguise. He had distracted her long enough to steal the necklace and get away before she could notice. He must have seen that fat man coming and timed it just perfectly. Still she had to give him credit. He was good.

She looked in all directions searching for the boy. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted him turning into an alleyway. She sped after him rounding the corner and turning into the deserted alley. But he wasn't there. She walked towards the high wall at the end of the lane and stood there wondering where he had went. Had she been seeing things? "Can I help you miss?" She jumped at the sound and immediatly turned to face the voice. There he was leaning against the wall arms folded with a cocked eyebrow. She calmed herself and said, "yes. You can give back that necklace you stole." He studied her a while then reached in his pocket and pulled out the necklace. "you mean this one?" he asked camly.

She was surprised he didn't try to lie or hide it. He didn't even run. "yes. That one." She held out her hand.

He chuckled and said with a teasing smile, "if you want it," he winked at her again, "Then come and get it."

"SAMANTHA!"

She was jarred back to reality as her father yelled her name. They had arrived at the briefing room and he was waiting, impatiently, for her to enter. She ducked her head in embarrasment and entered the room. She shook her earlier thoughts from her mind and began to think of a plan to get revenge on the boy who had made a fool of her.

Daniel stirred and woke up. Johnathan was getting ready for his "shoping spree". Daniel rubbed the sleep from his eyes and threw the covers off him. As he got ready he felt, odd. Like something was telling him not to got out today. He ignored the feeling and made his way the entrance.

They had decided to split up to avoid drawing too much attention. Daniel took the north square while Johnathan took the south. He was unaware of the pair of eyes following him as he entered the streets of the square.

For a while it was smooth sailing. As many of the rich nobles and merchants passed by in the crowded streets they didn't notice that the young man they had just scoffed at after bumping into him had stolen their wallets. Daniel was very particular about the people he stole from. He only took from those he thought deserved to be robbed. He hated the snobby rich nobles who didn't care for anyone but themselves. After a while he was aware that a pair of eyes were burning into his back. As he turned to look for their owner he didn't see anyone. He shruged it off as his nerves again and continued on his way. Samantha poked her head around the corner and kept following him, keeping a good distance away.

Soon he began to feel restless. As if every part of his being was screaming for him to run. He never felt this way before.

He began to move quicker than usual, no longer bothering to steal from those he bumped into. In his haste he turned into a dead end alley. He took a deep breath to calm himself and turned around to leave. He stopped short when he came face to face with a hooded figure. His skin went pale and had goosebumps despite the warm day. Something about this figure made him want to find the nearest hiding spot and stay there.

As the figure reached up to his hood Daniel became even more restless. When he saw the face behind the hood, he caught his breath. The old king sighed and had a bit of anger and sadness in his eyes. "you shouldn't be here 'Iridin'." The king spoke. But I guess my decree doesn't apply to the son of the dragon I banished."

Even though the king spoke softly his tone clearly stated that he was not happy that Daniel was here. Or even alive. "I never considered that he would have a son. But in our current situation, I guess i should be glad that I found you before 'He' did." The king stepped forward, "now what should I do with you?"

'I'm in deep trouble now,' Daniel thought.
What does the king want with Daniel? What will Johnathan do if he doesn't come back? Why am I asking questions that only I know the answer to? The answers will be revealed.......whenever i feel like it :XD: Enjoy and let me know what you think!
