"Where.....am i? I'm falling....into darkness....."

~earlier that day~

The sky was filled with darkness on destiny islands, Sora was running down the beach to find his friends that had left for their favorite island. 'what is going on!' sora panicked. He finally reached the source of the darkness. It was xehanort! But....he looked....different. He had a single armor piece on his shoulder that had, what looked like, a round button. He didn't have time to think about that because he was too focused on what was at his feet. Kairi and Riku were lying facedown. They weren't breathing. A third figure was next to Xehanorts feet. He looked  lot like Roxas but he had the same armor piece as Xehanort.

Sora's eyes widened in shock, then narrowed in anger. No. This wasn't anger. It was rage! "NOOOOOOOOOOO! I'LL KILL YOU!" He could feel the darkness rising in his heart, but he didn't care anymore. Xehanort spoke in that same annoying tone he always used. "Thats it sora. Give your heart to the darkness. Separate your heart once more and free those you hold inside you." 'Those....inside me?' Sora hesitated. Xehanort turned to face him holding a black keyblade filled with darkness. "Free them. And create the X-blade!" Dark energy surged from him and into Sora.

Sora felt his rage grow. Finally he gave in and roared as the power exploded around him. When the darkness cleared two figures stood where Sora had been. It was ventus, and vanitas! Ventus looked around surprised. His heart had returned to him? But How? Vanitas clenched and unclenched his hands, testing them. Vanitas turned his attention to Ven and drew his keyblade. "Time for our rematch." Ventus drew his own keyblade, "Not again!" He charged Vanitas hoping for a miracle.

Riku began to wake up. 'Augh my head! What happened? Last thing I remember was.....!' "Kairi!" He looked around for his friend and saw her lying next to him. He sighed in relief and looked up to see Ven and Vanitas fighting, with Xehanort watching. A smile on his face. 'What the?' Before he could try and figure out what was going on Kairi woke up as well.

She looked around. She was sure she had heard Sora's voice. When she saw the battle taking place in front of her she gasped. The one with black hair looked exactly like Sora! But something was wrong. She shivered as she felt the darkness surrounding him. "What's going on? Is that.....Sora?" Riku answered, "looks like it doesn't it." "We have to hurry!" A voice rang out behind him. "Donald, Goofy you two deal with Terra (Xehanort). I'll get Ventus to safety!" "Yes, your majesty!" They both answered the small figure next to them. Riku looked behind him to see the king with Donald and Goofy.

"King Mickey?!" Riku yelled, "What is going on?" "That guy over there," He answered pointing to Terra/Xehanort, "He convinced Sora to give in to the darkness!" Riku's eyes widened in horror as he watched Vanitas and Ventus fight. "How...." The king placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "I'll explain later, right now we have to keep the X-blade from being created! Riku! Take care of Vanitas!" "Right!" Riku summoned his keyblade, Way to Dawn, and rushed towards Vanitas. 'This time sora. I'll save you from the darkness.'

Kairi watched tha battles taking place all around her. 'He convinced Sora to give in to the darkness!' The kings words danced in her head. A small tear slid down her cheek. It was all her fault. If she could only defend herself better. If only she could protect her friends. Her hand began to glow as her wish was being granted.

Meanwhile riku was having a tough time with Vanitas. He fought just like Sora. But his attacks had a sadistic hatred behind them. Riku could not believe that this was his friend. Distracted by his thoughts Vanitas slashed at him with all his might and sent Way to Dawn flying. The blow sent Riku into a tree. He heard a sickly crunch and screamed out in pain. Vanitas took this chance and raced towards him. 'Crap!' Riku didn't have enough time to get out of the way. Vanitas smiled and swung his keyblade down towards Riku, "You Lose!" Riku braced himself for the blow, 'Sorry Sora. Looks like i'm no use after all.'

Riku waited, then opened one eye. He opened the other one to see if he wasn't seeing things. Kairi had intercepted the blow! In her hands was a.....keyblade?!" Riku then remembered that he had given her one at the World That Never Was. She held Vanitas' gaze and he laughed, "Not bad princess!" Tears streamed from her eyes, "Give Sora back!" He chuckled, "Let's see what you're made of!"

Sora looked around but all he saw was darkness. 'Where....am I?" He felt a strange but familiar sensation. He was falling. I'm falling. Falling....into darkness." He closed his eyes. There would be no salvation for him this time. "Give Sora back!" Kairi? But she was dead. Right? He passed out again.

Kairi landed hard on her back, knocking the wind out of her. She tried to get up but Vanitas grabed her by the throat and held her in the air. "You're too weak princess." He pined her against the paopu fruit tree. Then he leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Just. Like. Sora." She struggled in his grip, she was slowly losing conciousness. A memory flashed through her mind. Sora had asked her to meet him at the paopu tree to talk. She was excited. She wanted to tell him something too. When she arrived at the island she saw his silhouette against the tree in the distance. She ran all the way there stopping only to catch her breath on the small bridge leading to the tree.

She walked over to him and saw he was lost in thought. She smiled mischeviously and creeped up behind him. "Don't even think about it Kairi." She jumped back surprised. "Wah!" He turned to look at her smilling his biggest and goofiest grin. His spikey brown hair catching the sunset making it look like it was on fire. "You've gotten predictable Kairi." She blushed and poked him on the forehead. "What was it you wanted to talk about?" Sora's smile wavered and he looked out across the ocean surrounding the island. "Kairi. Remember when you gave me that charm?" She nodded. "Well, until recently. I never realized that you didn't have anything to remember me by." She thought he was talking about when she had forgotten about him and replied, "I don't need anything Sora! Really. I won't let myself forget ever again!" Sora smiled again and turned to her, "Still, I want you to have this." He pulled out a paopu fruit from his pocket.

She gasped and blushed furiously. "Sora...I..!" He reached for her hand, which was now trembling, and put the star-shaped fruit in it. She stared at the fruit and a tear rolled down her cheek. "Oh geez!" Sora panicked. Did he upset her? He had been playing this out in his mind but he never thought she would cry. Then she tackled him with a hug. "Thank you, Sora." Sora was suprised for a second, then he wraped his arms around her. "I promise that i'll always protect you Kairi. You are my light."

Kairi snaped out of her memory, regaining her resolve to save him. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the fruit. "Sora...." She could barely speak. Vanitas just laughed, "What is that thing? Is that a fruit? What're you gonna do? Feed it too me?" He laughed even harder. Kairi smiled a little and brought the fruit up to her lips, "Exactly!" She took a bite and kicked him in the chest as hard as she could sending him backwards with a grunt. She then tackled him and pined his arms to the ground. Vanitas struggled under her but before he could throw her off she brought he lips to his and kissed him.

Vanitas stopped struggling, confused. While she had him distracted she passed a piece of the fruit from her mouth to his. Vanitas was too surprised so he swallowed it accidentally. Sora felt something warm surrounding him. He opened his eyes and saw a light in the distance. In the center of the light he could see a figure standing there with an outstretched hand. Her auburn hair shone in the light as she spoke, "C'mon you lazy bum! I'm not letting you go that easy. You made a promise." Sora blinked and then reached for her hand, "Right. Promise." He grabbed her hand and was pulled into the light.

Vanitas began to glow bright. Kairi jumped off of him and watched. Vanitas roared in pain as the light began to fill surround him. A little ways away Ventus began to glow as well. Suddenly a small glowing orb separated from his chest. His body dissapered and went back to Castle Oblivion. The orb then shot towards Vanitas and hit him in the chest full force. Vanitas roared even louder and the light got too bright to look at. When it cleared away, Sora was lying on the ground, eyes closed.

Sora stirred and opened his eyes. He looked around and saw the king, donald, goofy, riku, and finally his eyes rested on Kairi. "I had a strange dream....." He said. "I was falling into the darkness...and..." He never got the chance to finish, because just then he was hugged fiercly by Kairi. "Shh! Don't worry." She said between sobs, "I won't let that happen ever again." She buried her face into his chest and he wraped his arms around her.

Later as they were headed home Sora was thinking about something. His mouth tasted weird. He turned and asked Kairi about it. She stopped walking and so did he. "Kairi?" She reached into her pocket and pulled something out. Sora was confused. It was the paopu fruit. But there was a piece missing. He looked back at her and she was blushing lightly, avoiding his gaze. After a few minutes she couldn't stand it any longer. Man he was cluless! "I fed you the paopu fruit by mouth!" She yelled. Sora blinked in surprise, and then his face turned bright red. She began walking again, a little angry at him. She didn't get far before she felt him grab her hand. He spun her around and locked his arm around her waist pulling her close. Her face was inches away from his. He smiled at her and whispered, "My turn." He pulled her in and kissed her. The shock slowly subsided as she closed her eyes and kissed him back. When they finally broke for air she leaned her head on his shoulder. She wraped her arms around him and held on tight. "Don't let me fall." Sora whispered. "I won't. I promise."
